Two tourists who became stranded in the Sally Gap in Co Wicklow last night have been rescued.
The couple were unaware of the dangers of snow and ice there and had to telephone for help.
The Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team received a call from the couple shortly after 7.30pm after their rented car got stuck in the snow.
The pair had followed the SAT-NAV system which directed them to drive through the Sally Gap after leaving Glendalough en route for south Dublin.
Wicklow Mountain Rescue said that many people who live or travel in the Wicklow mountains would be familiar with the extremely difficult, and at times, impassable conditions of the Military road.
The team said that the tourist couple appeared not to have realised the dangerous nature of the journey that their onboard computer was advising them to undertake.
A rescue team eventually reached the couple’s car and got them to safety.
