On Saturday 09th November 2013, both the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team where tasked to conduct two separate searches for missing hill-walkers who found themselves in difficulty on Wicklow’s hightest peak. Notification of callout’s 99 and 100 where received only moments apart through An Garda Síochána.
Callout 99 was for two missing female walkers who became separated from their main group while descending Lugnaquilla. After a short search the two walkers where located safe and well and reunited with their group in Glenmalure.
Callout 100 was for a missing hill walker who became disorientated in deteriorating weather conditions and poor light. The missing walker was located by the use of SARLOC.
A hasty team was dispatched to the OW Valley. They located the walker on steep ground. He was treated by mountain rescue medics for mild hypothermia and once warmed up the group made their way to a waiting Mountain Rescue 4×4 vehicle to be brought back to safety.
