Glendalough Rescue 24/11/13
On Sunday 24th November 2013 at approx. 17:30 Mountain Rescue services in Wicklow were called to the assistance of two men who had fallen into the Upper Lake in Glendalough.
The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue team and the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue team were alerted by walkers in the Glendalough area to calls for help from the opposite side of the Lake.
Members responded quickly as many were in the area at the time, some having been involved in swift water training while others were walking and enjoying the locality.
Two men had been traversing steep ground near Temple na Skellig on the South side of the upper lake. The ground was unstable and they both fell into the water. The men managed to get themselves out of the water and a Swift Water team from the Glen of Imaal walked in along the bank to meet them. The National Park staff were also alerted and they launched their boat on the lake to assist in the evacuation. The two men were treated for mild hypothermia, evacuated by boat and brought back to the Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue Teams base for hot showers and a debrief.
The operation was completed by 18:30 with everyone safely off the hill and the water.
- Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved including: The Wicklow Mountains National Park Staff, The Local shop and Hotel staff for their assistance in alerting team members in the area and An Garda Síochána.
