Lugnaquilla Search 03/05/14
- On Saturday the 03/05/14 at approximately 17.15hrs both the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by An Garda Siochana to come to the assistance of two hillwalkers who had become disorientated in mist on Lugnaquilla, Leinster’s highest mountain.
- Realising their situation and not wanting to wander further off course they made the right decision to call Mountain Rescue and seek assistance. Mountain Rescue established their base at baravore where both walkers had started out from, that morning. Communication took place with the two hillwalkers via mobile phone which enabled the teams to get as much information as possible about the surrounding terrain. Search Parties were then dispatched onto the mountain.
- Both hillwalkers were successfully found on a wide ridge separating the Glen of Imaal and Glenmalure mountain ranges shortly after 8.30pm. They were in good spirits after spending 11 hours in the Lugnaquilla region and had done the wise thing in remaining in the one location once they had sought assistance until they were found, at which point they were escorted off the hill to safety.
- Mountain Rescue would like to thank all agencies involved.
